Where the author's text shines

What Kind of Editor Do You Need?

If you are a new or independent author planning to self-publish a fiction manuscript or a memoir, my editing services may be a good fit for your needs. Read on to learn about my style and what I can bring to the editing process.

Communicative Style

I am open to a very communicative relationship with authors. Authors should feel free to call or email if they have questions or want to talk through some aspect of the manuscript. I enjoy having productive conversations with authors and believe it is especially useful in the early stage as I become familiar with the manuscript and need to make global decisions that often require author input. That said, for authors who prefer to drop manuscript and run, this works perfectly fine for me as well.

Author Control

Some authors worry they will feel pressured to make the changes that the editor has turned over to them. In my case, I take no offense when an author disagrees with my edits and comments. I view my feedback as suggestions based on my experience as an editor and as a reader, but I leave it to the author to decide whether to accept or reject my proposed changes. As long as the author understands my concern, I feel they should move on to enjoy creating their art in the way they wish and put forth their unique contribution to literature.

Fast Turnaround

I turn around projects fast. I usually take on one manuscript at a time, which allows me to jump on it as I receive it and devote my hours to it. This year, I have returned all of the manuscripts prior to the deadline. That said, I do not rush through any manuscript. If it requires more time, I will take it. But because my attention is not divided between multiple projects, I am generally able to turn them around quickly.

Editing Done By Human

Although I do edit manuscripts that were developed through the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in one way or another, I am generally not a fan of AI in the arts and I avoid it in my editing. I do not feed any sections of an author’s manuscript into AI programs. I know this is a concern for many authors, understandably. Though I do utilize computer programs and reference guides in my work, they are not AI programs. I read every word of the manuscript myself.
